A Moody Camp Sherman Engagement Session | Gracie & Liam

Some love stories don't need much direction.

Gracie and Liam were one of those couples I knew I'd connect with the moment we met at the Cascades Wedding Show. High school sweethearts have a rhythm that's impossible to manufacture. They don't spend much time wondering where to put their hands—they simply find each other. When we met in Camp Sherman, Oregon, for their winter engagement session, I gave them one piece of direction: "Pretend you're on your favorite day date."

After that,

they did the rest.

Their laughter came easily. The quiet moments happened naturally. My job became less about posing and more about noticing.

Let Central Oregon be Central Oregon.

As we wandered beneath the towering pines along the Metolius River, the clouds rolled in and a light drizzle began to fall. Around here, that's simply part of the story. Nobody hurried back to the car. Instead, Gracie laughed as she jumped puddles in her dress, balanced across fallen logs, and embraced every unexpected moment while Liam stayed close beside her. Some of my favorite engagement sessions happen when couples lean into whatever the day brings instead of fighting it.

Central Oregon has a way of rewarding that.

Photographing movement instead of poses.

Rather than stopping every few steps for another perfectly arranged pose, we kept moving. We walked. Talked. Held hands. Laughed.

Paused.

Those in-between moments have always been my favorite—the forehead kiss that wasn't planned, the quiet smile across the river, the split second before laughter takes over. That's the space where photographs begin to feel less like portraits and more like memories.

A glimpse into the season ahead.

This quiet winter evening became the perfect contrast to the celebration waiting just a few months later. On June 20th, Gracie and Liam would gather with family and friends for a beautiful garden brunch wedding at Hanai Foundation Wellness Center in Bend, Oregon.

That wedding day deserves a story of its own—and it's coming to the Journal soon.

Thank you.

As someone who grew up here in Central Oregon, documenting stories like Gracie and Liam's always feels a little like coming home. Places like Camp Sherman have shaped so many memories throughout my own life, making it even more meaningful to photograph another chapter beginning here.

Gracie and Liam, thank you for trusting me with this season.

Your kindness, joy, and quiet love made this one unforgettable.
